Attachment and Usage Tips from DRYFOB Customers

It always makes our day when customers tell us about their experience using their DRYFOB. We are humbled that our idea to design and build a diving grade key container has spread all over the world. To a large degree this has all been through word of mouth, diver to diver. We thank you!!

Customers have shared pictures with us of how they attach and use their DRYFOB. We’ve included some of these in the gallery below to give helpful suggestions and tips to other DRYFOB users. Information herein is shared without any guarantee or implied endorsement from DRYFOB and may show third party products that we have not personally used or tested.

Please keep the comments and pictures coming. While we can’t display everything, we do appreciate getting them and intend to update this area regularly.

Bolt snap and bungee attachment

One of the best ways to attach the DRYFOB is with a bolt snap and a piece of bungee cord. This is also nice and gentle on the anodized color unlike a metal ring or clip which might scratch off some of the anodize around the attach point.

Attachment with a short Octo Bungee/clip attachment

You can sometimes get an OCTO attachment which has a short bungee loop which can be used to loop through the hole in the DRYFOB lid.

Attachment with a key ring and clip

A simple key ring, can also be used (be sure to get Marine grade stainless to avoid corrosion) but this tends to scratch off the anodize color on the DRYFOB.

DRYFOB tied to BC pocket with a lanyard

You can also connect to both attach points for redundancy. Here we see a lanyard attached to both points. The lanyard was later clipped to the zipper pull of a BC pocket enclosure and tucked in the pocket.

Hose-clip and bungee setup

A great setup to attach directly to a belt or to wear the DRYFOB on an arm or on a strap is to attach a bungee. As we see below, this can be done with a hose clip and some pieces of bungee cord. Orienting this such that the bungee side is under the wider cap will give it less chance of coming off inadvertently.

A tubular webbing sleeve can also be used with some excess webbing bungee to make a similar attachment variation.

Making a belt loop

Another way to attach the DRYFOB to a belt is shown below.

Using a mesh bag or pocket for DRYFOB

There are also numerous mesh bags and other storage bags and pockets that can be used for carrying the DRYFOB. Below are some examples:

A large HOG bag fits the XL like a glove.

A larger mesh bag pocket can be used to carry any size DRYFOB along with other gear.

Even a spare mask case can be used for the XL. There are also a variety of camera lense pouches in various sizes that can be used for DRYFOBs of all sizes.

Attaching the cap to the bottom/body of the DRYFOB

Some DRYFOB-XL users that use the DRYFOB for marine radios and personal locator beacons want to ensure that they don’t lose any parts if they have to open the DRYFOB in rough seas. The smooth and flat inner surface of the DRYFOB is good for a variety of sticky tapes, velcros, or glues to attach a lanyard or hook.

Below is a technique using a fishing swivel to attach the cap so as to avoid having the lanyard twist up when opening and closing the unit.

Mounting on backplate or in an out of the way place

For sure you won’t need your car keys while your diving, so you don’t have to use prime real estate on your rig for mounting the DRYFOB. Many divers put it on their backplates, between tanks or in some out of the way place that will be accessible when exiting the water and getting back to the car.

Some FUN Pictures of DRYFOB in Exotic Places

A family of DRYFOB-XLs enjoying the Banda Sea diving with Hammerheads on the master liveabords ship. Wish we were there.

Here is another lucky DRYFOB that has had a chance to go diving on several Aggressor Liveaboards Robert from Ontario, says he always feels comfortable having his ACR tracker with him in his DRYFOB-XL and that it has been withstanding repeated depths of 160 feet with no issues.

David, from Australia says: “Thanks so much, my diving is so much more enjoyable due to my ability to carry a personal location beacon, and a marine handheld radio thanks to your DRYFOB.” Great set-up, Dive Safe Everyone.

Garmin Inreach Messenger found a home in a DRYFOB-XL

Most popular PLBs fit into the DRYFOB-XL with room to spare

Yes, even that massive Jeep Wrangler key fits into the DRYFOB-L model!

A few purple DRYFOB-XLs have been lucky enough to be out with Purple DIVE in Nusa Penida Bali. Helene uses them to house marine radios. Note the dual attachment for redundancy too. Wish we were there diving too.

The NEW DRYFOB-TXL is too large for many of the existing pouches, but we have ordered a spare-air carrying harness to try out with it. Some divers have also suggested A 2″ section of webbing that has a bungie, held on by a SS hose clamp similar to how canister lights are mounted.

Please send in any tips that may help your fellow DRYFOB users or even just fun pictures of the DRYFOB in cool places. We love getting these. DRYFOB reserves the right to select and publish any images and tips at its sole discretion.
